Thalapathy Vijay was last seen in director AR Murugadoss’s Sarkar, which released on Diwali 2018. The film ran into controversy when senior leaders of the AIADMK party pressurised the makers to remove a particular scene from the film as it mocked former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s welfare schemes.
After Sarkar’s successful run at the box office, Vijay took some time off to spend with his family. Now, the actor is training for his upcoming film, the working title of which is Thalapathy 63. Directed by Atlee, this film is tipped to be a sports drama produced by AGS Entertainment.
The rumour mills are churning out reports that Vijay will be essaying the role of a football coach in the film. Also, the makers have roped in 16 debutant actors to act in the movie as football players. However, an official confirmation on the same is yet to arrive.
The shooting of Thalapathy 63 is expected to commence sometime in March 2019 and the film might hit the theatres for Diwali 2019. The makers are now finalising the cast and crew of the movie.
In December 2018, Atlee, cinematographer GK Vishnu and producer Archana Kalpathi were scouting locations in Hollywood. This film marks the third collaboration between Atlee and Vijay after Theri and Mersal.
On November 14, AGS Entertainment issued a press statement that read, “#Thalapathy63 promises to be PAKKA MASS family entertainer with a large cast, superior technical crew and best of production value. We are putting together the best global talent to attempt a genre that will be the first of its kind for Thalapathy.”
