Ever since Suriya’s film with Sudha Kongara, Soorarai Pottru, was announced, speculations have been rife that the film will be a biopic of Captain GR Gopinath, who founded Air Deccan. However, the actor has clarified that the film is not a biopic, but only inspired by certain events from his life.

A source says, “It was rumoured that Soorarai Pottru would chronicle the life of Captain GR Gopinath, and the first look poster of the film – which showed Suriya standing next to an airplane – only fuelled the rumours further. However, in an interview, Suriya has clarified that the film is not a biopic, but will only present events that happened in Captain GR Gopinath’s life, and the screenplay has been adapted suitably.”

The film, which also stars Aparna Balamurali, Jackie Shroff and Saranya Ponvannan, has music by GV Prakash.

Meanwhile, Suriya’s just had a release in NGK, directed by Selvaraghavan. While he’s finished work on Kaappaan with KV Anand, he’s busy working on Soorarai Pottru now. The actor had said that he considers Sudha, whose Irudhi Suttru won her rave reviews, his sister and that he’s known her since she worked on Aayitha Ezhuthu as an associate.
