Popular humorist, dramatist and screen writer Crazy Mohan passed away at 2 p.m today.

 

He was admitted to Cauvery Hospital in Chennai in a serious health condition, but passwed away due to cardiac arrest. Born as Mohan Rangachari, he began his career as a dramatist writing the play ‘Crazy Thieves in Paalavakkam’ for S Ve Shekher’s Natakapriya. He later formed Crazy Creations (hence Crazy Mohan), and wrote hit plays like ‘Jurassic Baby’, ‘Alaavudeenum 100 Watts Bulbum’, ‘Maadhu +2’, ‘Chocolate Krishna’ and more.

He later ventured into cinema as a writer and actor. The first film for which he wrote the dialogues was K Balachander’s Poikaal Kudhirai, an adaptation of his own play ‘Marriage Made In Saloon’. Having written the dialogues for several films, Mohan balanced his passion for theatre and films. The Tamil Nadu state government awarded him with ‘Kalaimamani’ title for excellence in the field of arts and literature.

The acclaimed theater artiste is known for his association with Kamal Haasan is well known. Some of their the popular collaborations include Apoorva Sagodharargal, Michael Madana Kama Rajan, Magalir Mattum, Avvai Shanmughi, Sathi Leelavathi, Thenali, Panchathanthiram, Pammal K Sambandam and Vasool Raja MBBS. He also wrote the dialogues for Rajinikanth’s ‘Arunachalam’ and SS Rajamouli’s ‘Naan Ee’.

The Governor of Maryland, USA had conferred professional excellence award to Mohan for his contributions to Tamil literature, fine arts, theatres for more than 38 years and for successfully conducting more than 6,000 stage shows globally and for his support of many noble and philanthropic causes. He was awarded by the secretary of state on the 31st of October, 2016 at Washington DC during the staging of his comedy play, Google Gadothgajan.
